By B.D. Hobbs May 18, 2026

Early voting begins today here in Texas, for the May 26th primary runoff elections. And that means finally the end of the race between U.S. Senator John Cornyn, and challenger Ken Paxton.

“This has been an incredibly bloody primary between Cornyn and Paxton, the dagger’s have been out and no dirt has been left behind” said Rice university political science professor, Mark Jones.

That is the marquee match-up atop the ballot. The other big one is for the GOP nominee to be the next Attorney General.

“Between Mayes Middleton and Chip Roy” Jones told KTRH, “I would say Middleton has a slight advantage.”

There are also some key congressional races, including the contest for the Republican nomination for TX-9 between state Rep. Briscoe Cain and Alex Mealer.

The is also the Republican runoff for Harris County Judge between Orlando Sanchez and Warren Howell.

For the Democrats, longtime Congressmen Al Green could be out after 21 years, as he is trailing Christian Menefee.

Early voting run thru Friday May, 22nd.
